FAQ
I've never surfed before. Can I still join?
Yes! This retreat is beginner-friendly, and all surf levels are welcome. Our coaches are experts at teaching foundational techniques to first-timers, ensuring a fun and safe progression from day one.
Do I need to be a Yogi?
Not at all. Our classes are designed for all levels, and your teacher will guide you based on your experience. Whether you’re a seasoned practitioner or stepping onto the mat for the first time, what truly matters is your presence—not perfection.
What does a typical day look like?
Every day includes daily surf sessions timed for the best tides and conditions, followed by daily yoga classes to restore and stretch your muscles. The schedule is flexible, giving you plenty of free time for expansion and integration.
What kind of yoga will we be practicing?
Our yoga is tailored to the students’ needs and the week’s activities. Expect a blend of Vinyasa Flow to build strength for surfing, and deep Restorative practice to aid recovery and calm the mind. There will be one yoga class per day.
I'm not a strong swimmer. Can I still join?
Yes, and your safety is our top priority. All of our surf instructors are trained in water safety, and every guest is attached to their board during lessons to keep them secure in the water. If you ever feel more comfortable sitting out a surf session, there are alternative activities available so you never miss out on the retreat experience.
Is Walisa inclusive and welcoming to everyone?
Yes! This experience is designed to be a safe, supportive, and inclusive space for all participants. We welcome people of all backgrounds, identities, and experience levels. Whether you’re new to yoga and surfing or have years of practice, you’ll be guided with care and respect. Meals are shared together as a group, and activities are structured to foster connection while honoring individual needs. Our goal is for everyone to feel comfortable, valued, and part of the community.
Which airport should I fly into?
Please book your flights to Managua International Airport (MGA). This is the only international airport in Nicaragua.
How long is the transfer and is transportation included?
