Meet Your Host Kara
I’m Kara, a Los Angeles–based creative entrepreneur with a love for capturing life’s most special moments. I began my journey in the corporate world, but eventually followed my heart to photography. The best decision! I’m endlessly curious, love exploring new cultures, and committed to building meaningful community in these chaotic times.
My love affair with northern Nicaragua began in March of 2018, when I booked a last-minute surf and yoga retreat for some much-needed self-care. I’d never been to Nicaragua before, I didn’t speak a word of Spanish, and I did not like “the outdoors.” This was uncharted territory for me in more ways than one, but at that point in my life, after the loss of my only brother the year before, I was in a permanent state of uncharted territory.
My soul was searching for a way forward through the haze of grief and sorrow, and that search took me to Central America for what I hoped, at best, would be a brief respite from the reality of my new normal. I was broken—cracked all over—and I needed something.
That one week in March was one of the best weeks of my whole life, not just because of how much fun it was, but because on this trip, I realized that the cracks I initially feared would shatter me were actually openings that could be filled. And so I filled them.
At first, I did a few retreats, and then built up the confidence to start visiting Nicaragua solo. As my Spanish improved, I was able to connect deeper with the community. Through my conversations, I learned that there was a need for women’s health education, and in 2022 I partnered with a local women’s organization to host a women’s wellness workshop. It was a huge success. Through community building, I discovered the piece I needed to make my experience complete, and that is how the idea for The Walisa Experience was born.

For this special week in Nicaragua, Emiliano’s classes will emphasize restorative alignment and mindful presence, complementing the invigorating challenge of daily surf. His intention is to help students get grounded and present so they can listen to their inner voice, reconnect with themselves, and return home with clarity and inspiration. Emiliano’s approach blends physical alignment with mindful awareness, creating a practice that supports both body and spirit while encouraging students to explore their own growth.
A Gemini at heart, Emiliano embodies curiosity, adaptability, and creativity—qualities that shine through in his teaching. His classes invite participants to cultivate balance, celebrate progress, and carry a renewed sense of inspiration into their daily lives.
